Mission of T.E.A.R.S.

Mission Statement

The organization’s name is derived from Psalm 126 verse 5 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy”.  Mission of T.E.A.R.S. is established as a humanitarian outreach based on Christian principles and Biblical morals.  It is our mandate to implement the five points of TEARS which are Teaching, Educating, Advocating, Resourcing and Serving, both at home and abroad. Our goal is to establish long term effectual projects or programs to enable the under privileged from among the orphans, widow’s, poor and oppressed people to help themselves.

Overview of Ministry Activity

Project “St. Petersburg” is directed at support and educational programs for disabled children and their families.  This project is designed to create awareness of the needs encountered by the care givers, families and those persons who are disabled.  The project is a collaboration of Orphanage # 1 St. Petersburg, Mission of T.E.A.R.S. and Christian Horizons Canada.  The orphanage is used for training and development programs as well as for public awareness and education in challenges of the disabled.  This program also works toward transition of the disabled into Russian society of the older residents. To help in increasing public awareness of the disabled, mass media is used such as radio. This project also encompasses the ideals of Operation S.T.O.P. (Safe Transition of Orphans Project) a shelter and job training ministry for older teens who must leave the orphanage.

Project Hope “Operation Adoption” enables T.E.A.R.S. adoption agency to work under the current accreditations laws of Russia to place children into homes in Canada. Project Hope also works to provide needed medicine, food, clothes and other daily needs to orphans who cannot be adopted from Russia.  Our directive is “if we cannot take the child to a home setting we will bring the home setting to the child”.

Recent work has begun in early child hood intervention programs particularly in Africa.  Domestic foster care programs are part of our global outreach.

Work in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya is developing under the same mandates as Eastern Europe.

Plans and Goals

Mission of T.E.A.R.S. desires to work toward more recognition of its potential in effectual programs for Eastern Europe both with Canadian and American public. Organizations or church groups with whom we can partner to expand or implement programs will be our goal.  Our plan would be to have others review were our joint effort such as with Christian Horizon, may work with them.  Our development strategy is in moving from short term to mid and long term projects based on our mandate of Teaching, Educating, Advocating, Resourcing and Serving.
