Mission Statement

Serving needy children worldwide, both materially and spiritually.

Overview of Ministry Activity

Voice of the Children was founded in 1998 to continue and expand work started in 1992 by Alex Gorelik in St. Petersburg, Russia. In St. Petersburg, VOTC supports a private christian orphanage for street children, presently housing 20 children. Since it opened in 1996, it has served over 400 street children. VOTC does outreach on the streets, getting to know children and encouraging them to leave the streets and pursue a more hopeful life.  We have begun a second orphanage for street children several hours outside of the city.

With the exception of Alex and Marta, the staff is Russian. The Christian faith permeates all of these efforts, as true freedom from the streets and drugs depends on the life changing power of God. VOTC aims to locally empower Christians to address the needs of their own communities, and to create self-propagating and self-sufficient services.

Plans and Goals

Most of our effort at present goes toward developing a new orphanage for street children, which has been open for three years.  This orphanage is two hours outside of the city, and located on the grounds of a christian drug rehabilitation center.  The building is partially complete and has physical capacity for 20 children.  This is is meant to be a long term home, providing schooling, vocational training, Bible study, spiritual training, and life skills.  We aim for the children to grow up to be productive, healthy, independent adults with the desire and ability to serve God.

We need long-term staff committed to reaching street children in Russia.  We also need long or short term specialists for training and work with all construction skills, woodworking, farming, basic computer, english, Bible teaching, and other skills.
